In Search of Migrants at Fishers Green

30th March 2015

Still a bit early in the season but I thought that Fishers Green was probably the best place to pick up some early spring migrants. I headed off towards the Grebe Hide and, although there were plenty of Chiffchaffs singing away there was nothing else, not even a Blackcap.

At the Grebe Hide wildfowl numbers were low, presumably because most of the winter visitors had already departed. However, right in front of the hide some Pochard, Tufted Duck and Great Crested Grebes were putting on a show.

One of the female Pochards was diving quite close which allowed me to take this sequence.

But the star of the show today was this statuesque Heron which was on show by the Bittern Watch-point, which was just compensation for the lack of Water Rails and Bitterns.
